The forever forest
Forever Forest is a Romanian foundation built around a hard lesson learned through decades in the field.
How it began
25 years of nature protection and a lesson that changed the strategy.
Forever Forest did not begin with a foundation. It began with the unease that our relationship with nature is out of balance.
Gabriel Paun worked across continents with organizations such as Greenpeace, Four Paws, Animals International, and Animals Australia, and founded Agent Green in 2009.
He stopped destructive projects, changed decisions, helped create laws, and protected tens of thousands of hectares. He also saw how quickly a win can be lost.
"And then, one day, it ended."
In 2016, a real experiment began in a forest in Covasna: not advocacy, but an applied model.
For 10 years it proved that a forest can remain alive, support biodiversity, and create value without being destroyed.
- remain alive
- support biodiversity
- create value
- without being destroyed
Then administration was taken over by the state and logging started. The lesson was simple: if you do not control the forest, you cannot guarantee its future.
What was lost in one day, and why we no longer ask permission.
If you do not control the forest, you cannot guarantee its future.
We take direct responsibility
We no longer ask the system to protect forests. We take them into care directly.
Forever Forest was born from recognizing that limit: not as an extension of activism, but as a step beyond it.
- 01
They cannot be sold
Forests we take on leave the exploitation circuit. Permanently.
- 02
They cannot be exploited
Outside natural principles. No clear-cuts, no compromises.
- 03
They cannot be lost
Held for the long term, for the generations to come.
Forests protected through Forever Forest are not temporary projects, but ecosystems freed from threats.
The foundation is built around a lesson learned in the field.
What we choose to protect forever.
The forest's functions
- Air
- is cleaned
- Water
- is filtered and held in soil
- Carbon
- stored in wood, leaves, and earth
- Networks
- living and invisible, where every species matters
A true forever forest is not only a place. It is a living system working without pause.
Air, water, carbon, soil, and the relationships between species are functions of the same organism.
For climate. For biodiversity. For us.
Forever Forest exists to show that this relationship with the forest can be a concrete and repeatable choice.
How we work
We work directly with real forests, not only concepts. With principles, not rigid rules.
What does this place need in order to remain alive and healthy for the long term?
We buy forests from donations and sponsorships, or take them into long-term usufruct so they can later transfer permanently to the foundation.
The answer is not the same everywhere. Some forests should be left entirely alone. Others can be helped to heal.
The rule remains the same: the forest must keep its structure, diversity, and ability to function as a whole.
What we secure in every forest
- 01
Continuous canopy
No thinning that fragments the ecosystem.
- 02
Natural regeneration
The forest renews itself without forced planting.
- 03
Native diversity
Varied species and ages, not monocultures.
- 04
Constant presence
Rangers and monitoring for protection and research.
How we support forests over the long term
-
People
Can directly protect a real place.
-
Companies
Can support climate in a verifiable way.
-
Funding
Continuous, not temporary.
Each forest becomes an example: an open place where people can see and understand without disturbing.
We care for forests so they can keep caring for everything that depends on them.
Adopt one metre of forest
With every €2 donated, we buy and manage one square metre of real forest. We leave it as a legacy to nature, untouched and protected forever.
